In a letter sent to Ohio, three Ohio Republicans in the Ohio House of Representatives have recommended that the legalisation of online gambling and the ilottery be implemented as it would provide a net benefit to Ohio.

Reps. Jay Edwards and Jeff LaRe, along with Cindy Abrams, said that the state must legalise online gambling, such as casino games and lotteries. Ohio has legalized online sports betting since January 20, 2023.

While the state must proceed cautiously with an expansion of this size, the correct regulatory framework can allow these gaming types to thrive without causing significant harm to the community.

“The current system”, the representatives wrote.

This letter was part of the study commission’s report on gaming future in Ohio, released on Friday (12th July). A report by PlayUSA states that the commission held four meetings, one of which was devoted to online casinos in February. The 354 pages of this report are largely composed by the written testimony that was provided at the hearings.

This letter could be a sign that the Ohio Online Casino Bill will be introduced next year. The letter noted the “huge potential” of legalising online gambling and ilotteries.

The letter stated that “looking at other states which have implemented either ilottery or igaming we can see significant increases in tax revenue generated by greater participation, but also continued growth of sales made on-site.”

“That can largely be contributed to more people participating in the market on their phones and becoming more comfortable/knowledgeable about doing it at a physical location.”

Online gambling is still illegal in seven states, despite the fact that more than 25 offer digital sports betting. Online gambling is available in seven states.
