The Malta Gaming Authority has announced that it has signed a data-sharing agreement with the Badminton World Federation Integrity Unit (BWF).
Both organisations will work together to increase the surveillance of badminton gambling activity.
Antonio Zerafa, MGA’s head of financial crime compliance, said that he was pleased to see BWF included in the list of sports governing body with which the regulator is already involved on a daily basis.
He said, “I am very happy to see the Badminton World Federation included to the long list Sports’ Governing Bodies whom Authority already assists on an practical level. We look forward to working together with the BWF’s Integrity Unit to resolve any issues that may arise.”
Thomas Lund, secretary general of BWF, stated that the partnership will help BWF to identify possible instances of match-fixing and improve its investigative capabilities and anti-match-fixing operations.
Lund stated that “this partnership helps the BWF Integrity Unit preserve the integrity of the sport with MGA helping facilitate the sharing data between betting operators, the BWF Integrity Unit”
“We view this as a deterrent for potential corruptors of sport as we maintain the integrity of badminton.”
Stats Perform
BWF and Stats Perform entered into a long term integrity services agreement at the beginning of the month.
Stats Perform will provide the BWF’s Integrity Unit a new suite of tools, capabilities and capabilities under the terms of the agreement. This will enable them to detect suspicious betting and match manipulation.
