ESPN Bet is expanding its reach to Washington, D.C. behind a new market access deal.

PENN Entertainment has announced a long-term partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment securing market access in Washington, D.C. for ESPN Bet pending regulatory approvals. The deal, secured through PENN Sports Interactive, also makes ESPN Bet a sports betting partner of Monumental and its properties. Monumental has a portfolio of brands that includes the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards.

The sports and entertainment company, which was valued at $6.1 billion in 2024, per Forbes, also owns the Washington Mystics and RSN Monumental Sports Network.

“We are proud to partner with Monumental Sports and its teams to unite the energy of D.C. sports with our world-class platform,” said PENN Entertainment Chief Technology Officer Aaron LaBerge. “This deal expands our footprint in the region, further connecting ESPN BET with one of America’s most passionate sports communities.”

The market access deal between Monumental and PENN also includes multi-channel marketing for both physical and online advertisements of ESPN Bet. As part of the pact, ESPN Bet will have in-arena signage at Capital One Arena and features in broadcasts. It also provides Monumental with limited IP rights for ESPN Bet and Hollywood Casino.

Monumental has also committed to promoting responsible gaming for its D.C. operations.

The company has vowed to allocate resources and assets, including media, to provide RG messaging to fans at its sporting events and online marketing materials with ESPN Bet.

ESPN Bet to enter a growing market

ESPN Bet has gained access to a new open online sports betting market in D.C.

Last year, GambetDC lost its role as the district’s exclusive sports betting provider due to complaints about poor performance. FanDuel took over for GambetDC before D.C.’s gaming regulator created an open market creating a pathway for competition and new operators.

Since July 2024, Caesars, BetMGM, Fanatics and DraftKings have also launched online operations across D.C. Before the launch of district-wide wagering by multiple operators, BetMGM and Caesars could only accept online wagers in D.C. near pro sports team venues.
