Spanish gaming revenue increased 55.1% on a year-on-year basis to EUR312.6m during Q2

In the second quarter of 2018, gross gambling revenues in Spain increased by 55.1% on an annual basis to EUR312.6m. (PS207.0m/$332.6m), and revenue from sports bets more than doubled.

The total revenue for the second quarter of 2018 was 2.5% more than Q1 and EUR313.3m. The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling, Spain’s gambling regulator (DGOJ), has released data for the last three months.

The casino generated the highest GGR in Q2: EUR149.9m. This is up by 27.9% compared to last year, and 4.5% more than Q1.

The slot machine revenues increased 29.9%, while the live roulette revenue increased 8.9%.

Spanish Sports Betting Revenues Rocket in Q2

Sports betting grew the most during the third quarter. The GGR for the quarter reached EUR133.3m – up 118.9% on last year.

Live betting GGR increased 3.5% and pre-event bets GGR by 1.8%. Horse racing bets increased by 22.7%, but GGR for other sports betting fell 15.1%.

Poker GGR in other countries was 27,6% more than it was last year, at EUR25.8m. However, this was still 5.8% less than what was reported for the first quarter. Cash poker GGR increased by 4.9% and tournament poker GGR increased 38.1% compared to Q2 2022.

Bingo GGR was EUR3.5m in Q2, up by 5.5% from the prior year.

Finaly, the contests GGR reached EUR140,000. This is a 1.464.9% rise on Q2 last year, but a 41.5% drop from Q2.

Player deposits up almost 20%

In terms of related activities, DGOJ reported that player deposits are 19.6% higher than last year but 2.0% lower than Q1 The DGOJ said that withdrawals were 2.3% lower than the first quarter and 3.0% more than 2022.

The total marketing expenditure by Spanish licensees reached EUR96.6m in 2013, an increase of 3.0%. Advertisement spending was up 7.7% on the previous year. Affiliate spend grew 56.2%. Sponsorship soared 225.2%. Promotions were down by 1.7%.

The average number of active accounts per month increased 11.4% compared to last year, reaching 1,134.993. The average monthly number of new users fell by 3.0%, to 102 804 accounts.

The DGOJ also published an update of the number licensees operating in Spain. Around 78 licensed operators offered gambling in Q2.

Among the operators with licences, 43 provide sports betting, fifty casinos, nine poker games, two bingo, and two contests.
