For more than 50 years, the World Series of Poker has been synonymous with poker tournaments.

Caesars Entertainment has been the owner of the WSOP tournament since 2004. Harrah’s Entertainment (then known as Harrah’s Entertainment) purchased Binion’s Horseshoe, and the WSOP with it. Caesars Group Inc. announced on Thursday, 1 August that it will sell the intellectual rights of GGPoker to NSUS Group Inc. NSUS Group Inc. is behind the international online poker website GGPoker.

NSUS, pronounced “answers”, has agreed to make a $500 million payment to Caesars. The company will make a $250m payment in cash when the deal closes and another $250m after five years.

Last week, the 2024 World Series of Poker concluded in Las Vegas. The second World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was held at the new Strip properties, Paris Las Vegas & Horseshoe Las Vegas. Caesars has agreed to retain its right to hold the tournaments at their Vegas properties in perpetuity. Caesars Casinos can also continue to hold WSOP Circuit Events and display WSOP brand in their poker room.

WSOP Online, the digital version of poker, is available now in Nevada, New Jersey Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Caesars continues to run these sites, but is “otherwise restricted” from running online real-money peer-to-peer poker operations.

The WSOP has a bright future ahead

It isn’t a new relationship. GGPoker and the World Series of Poker have previously partnered to run overseas qualifiers of WSOP events.

In a press release, NSUS Group CEO Michael Kim said, “After years of collaboration with Caesars Entertainment, NSUS Group is excited to announce its new role as the World Series of Poker’s leader, leading the most renowned brand in poker in the world.” We will use GGPoker’s industry experience and cutting-edge tech to ensure that WSOP players enjoy a seamless, improved and safe poker experience. Under the new leadership of NSUS, WSOP will be expanded worldwide. This will place WSOP at the forefront in poker’s development.
