The Québec council of ministers has appointed Ann Macdonald as chair of the board of directors at Canadian provincial lottery operator Lotto-Québec.

Macdonald has been part of the board since March 2019 and will now move into her new position as president.

Prior to this, Macdonald held positions such as director of business development and sales, and director of project management at Bombardier Transportation, where she worked for seventeen years.

She also served as a senior adviser at VIA Rail and chief operating officer at BONE Structure.

“The Board of Directors joins me in congratulating Ann MacDonald on her appointment. Ms MacDonald has been on the Loto-Québec board of directors since March 2019 and since her appointment, she has put her skills and strategic vision to the State service of society,” president and chief executive of Loto-Québec Jean-François Bergeron said.

Macdonald will succeed the current chair of the board directors, Héléne F. Fortin, who held the position since 2008.

“I would also like to thank Hélène F. Fortin for her commitment to the Company. She has always demonstrated exemplary rigor by applying the best governance practices. She also offered the same unwavering support to the presidents who have succeeded at the head of Loto-Québec,” added Jean-François Bergeron.

The move comes after Canada’s senate has passed a bill allowing single-event sports betting, which means Lotto-Québec may soon be able to offer sports bets on individual events, rather than just multiples.
