Part two of our list of the Most Influential Women for 2023 reveals three more names.

Lina Sénével Square in the Air Senior Account Director

Lina Sennevall believes that being named as one of iGB’s Most Influential Woman is a testament to the importance of diversification in every industry. She notes that a great deal has changed in the gambling industry over her decade of experience, but there’s still more work to do.

In an ideal world these awards would not be needed, she says. “But in a male-dominated industry, it is fantastic that we recognize the work of women who make our industry better for everyone, and not just one demographic.”

Sennevall’s passion for the gambling industry has driven her in all of her roles, starting as a reporter with Gambling Compliance and continuing to her present role as marketing consultant at Square in the Air.

She says, “I find this sector exciting and fun, as it is constantly evolving in areas like technology, regulations and compliance, innovative product development, CSR, and responsible gambling.” This passion for this industry made me strive to stay on top of the game, learn new things and enjoy it.

Sennevall admits, however, that it has always been difficult for her to get women to take gaming seriously.

She says, “I’m glad to see that the situation has improved in my sector since I started working there over a decade back. But I continue to hear and witness sexism.”

The industry is struggling to get more women into the field. Men are the ones who apply for the most jobs.

She says that having a more visible presence at events can help to tackle the problem. “More females speaking on panels, and developing their own personal brand will hopefully promote greater diversity.”

Cheryl Jones

Mr. President, Europe’s Odds on Compliance

Cheryl Jones sees her nomination as proof of the great support that she has received over her entire career.

She says, “This accomplishment is of immense importance not just for myself but for all those who have supported me steadfastly throughout my gaming careers.” I have always believed that having a voice gives you influence, and if it can inspire someone to feel the same way, you are doing well.

The award I received is proof of my perseverance and values as a female in the gaming sector.

Jones acknowledges the progress made by employers in promoting gender equality. She believes that measures need to be taken in order to guarantee equal opportunities.

She explains that more people now than ever believe women are equal in their ability to achieve leadership positions. But these sentiments aren’t enough to bring about significant advancements. Still, biases are a problem.

To break down these barriers, organizations need to develop their gender equality approach and build structures and systems for both women and men.

Jones, in her professional career, has taken action to make these words a reality. Women Leading Women was created by Jones at Odds On Compliance for women working in the sports, technology, and igaming industries.

She explains, “I am available for mentoring. I actively promote diversity and inclusion. And I advocate for the professional development of women in my industry.”

Jones believes that networking and community are powerful tools, but she also knows that the drive to succeed as a female in an industry dominated by men must ultimately come from the inside.

She concludes, “I tell people to take control of their career and voice. Don’t wait around for an opportunity to present itself.” Create opportunities that you would like to be in. Use your fears as motivation, and don’t ever say no to a challenge.

Brianne Doura-Schawohl

Doura-Schawohl Consulting LLC CEO and founder

Brianne doura-Schawohl considers being named on iGB’s list of Most Influential women a great honour.

She says, “As an entrepreneur who wants to create change and make a positive impact on the world, I feel a great sense of pride and gratitude.”

Doura-Schawohl Consulting LLC’s CEO and founder, Doura-Schawohl Consulting LLC, modestly credits her success to the village that rallied behind her.

She adds, “Success doesn’t mean you have to embark on the journey by yourself or that you can never fail.”

Doura-Schawohl adds that, as a woman, wife, and mother, Doura is frequently faced with difficult decisions and risks. It’s important to have mentors, friends, family, and colleagues who believe in you.

Doura-Schawohl admits to her mistakes, and she tries hard to recover quickly when things do not go according the plan. She says that her ability to ask for help is improving.

She says, “I would like to think that these qualities do not make me weak. Instead they put me in the position to be able to grow as a leader and person.”

The CEO also has to deal with the idea that women can achieve it all. She explains that “whoever said that was lying”. No one can do it all. “No one can have it all.”

It’s about prioritizing and finding the right balance for you.

Doura-Schawohl has struggled to find her self-confidence. Like many women, she admits to having experienced the impostor syndrome.

It has happened more than I would like to admit. I’ve felt that I don’t fit in or will not be accepted because there aren’t many women leaders or mentors. “I’ve worried once or twice about getting a job only because I am a female.”

Once she was able let go of her mental barriers, the CEO found herself in a new state of mind.

“I have found great happiness realising that my contribution to the industry is being appreciated by both men and women, regardless of my gender. I also feel that my role and place in this industry are important.”
