The Hawaii State Senate has introduced a new proposal to create a corporation that will regulate and provide gambling services.
Hawaii is currently the only US state where gambling is prohibited. Recently, the Hawaii State Senate bill HTML07 was introduced to change that. It would establish a state gambling regulator and offer its own gaming services.
The Hawaii lottery and gaming corp. is the proposed name for the state-run entity. It will offer only gaming services, which include various casino products like poker and other table games. If the bill becomes law, it will not be able to offer sports betting services.
The bill suggests that the establishment of a gambling regulator and provider could boost tourism. The bill outlines that the Hawaii lottery will offer free-to-play games and sweepstakes to residents of other areas. It also includes prizes with Hawaiian themes that will be used to promote the state and its companies.
The proposal also calls for the control of the governing corporation by a board, which will be responsible for electing the chief executive officer and fulfilling the duties of the organization.
