Elys Game Technology is an interactive gaming company that offers sports betting and technology for sports. The partnership with Cloakroom Gentlemen’s Club DC will allow the launch of the first ever sportsbook within a stripclub in Washington D.C.
District of Columbia’s Office of Lottery and Gaming granted the project a Standard Class A Joint Venture Sports Wagering Operator License. The Over Under Sportsbook Rooftop Lounge opened its doors to sportsbooks on December 29, 2009.
Michele Ciavarella, executive chairman of Elys Game Technology, stated that they were delighted to be granted the first joint venture licence with Cloakbook in order to start sports betting services at the Cloakroom Gentlemen’s Club, and Over Under roof lounge. This is our second small-business sportsbook installation. Elys believes this retail segment for sports betting in local establishments can be a major driver of economic recovery and employment at the neighborhood level across the United States and Canada. The retail distribution model is an alternative to mobile gambling that was not available in America prior to 2018. Cloakbook’s patience and persistence, along with the meticulous oversight of DCOLG and Department of Small and Local Business Development (“DSLDB”), helped us to identify areas of improvement that would maintain compliance and public safety and offer a comprehensive end-to-end solution for small businesses partners. These partnerships will be a key part of our U.S. expansion. We hope to continue to work with them to ensure the sustainable and long-lasting economic growth of small and local businesses.
Tony Cavasilios, Cloakbook, LLC’s Managing Member, said, “We look forward to launching our sportsbook operations in the Cloakroom, as well as the brand-new Over Under Lounge on the roof above the club. This will allow us to offer a completely new experience for our patrons.” This new venture allows us to create 15 jobs in D.C., offer customers the chance to enjoy a dinner and beverage at the Over Under lounge and wager on their favorite team. The celebration will be held in the Cloakroom Gentlemen’s Club. We have developed a profound respect for the regulatory framework for installing the sportsbook. This has been a lengthy process. Elys’ technology and installation teams were outstanding. They helped us navigate the difficult process of setting up a comprehensive sportsbook in our establishment. We are delighted to offer this service to our long-standing patron relationships.
Cloakbook is the birth of a new licensing system that was developed by extensive collaboration and collaboration between Elys and Cloakroom as well as the DSLDB, DCOLG, and Cloakroom based on the Grand Central experience. The District of Columbia’s pioneering licensing system could be replicated by other states or jurisdictions. Elys will continue to be a part of the local business community in connection to Cloakbook’s new licensing model. Elys plans to host biannual seminars about the process of becoming licensed to wager on sports. Elys also intends to post subcontracting opportunities to D.C. Certified Businesses Entities. Elys will communicate via e-mail to the CBE community with relevant contracts for managing the sportsbook.
