Since the Ohio Lottery launched its Classic Lotto game, in 2007, it has won 27 jackpots. Last week, the last jackpot, which has yet to be claimed was announced thanks to a lucky ticket purchased in Butler County.
$1.4 Million in Redeemable Funds
This lucky player made a purchase at Don’s Carry Out, Darrtown. He won the third of three Classic Lotto jackpots in one month. The odds of winning this jackpot are 1 in 13,983,816.
The 27th jackpot was only five draws away after the 26th jackpot, which occurred on April 22. This jackpot came seven drafts following the 25th jackpot on April 5.
Marie Kilbane, spokesperson for the Ohio Lottery, informed the public that only one of the three huge jackpots had been claimed.
You have six months to claim your winning lottery tickets
The winners have 180 days to claim their winning tickets. If you fail to claim your prize, the money will be donated to local schools. This is the same thing that happens with all state lottery profits in Ohio.
Kilbane stated that the two other jackpot winners still had time to claim their prize, but he was confident that “someone” has already been alerted that a winner has been found.
The representative expressed that the Ohio Lottery is proud of its high rate of jackpot winners, and expressed hope for this record to continue.
Eric Beckett of Don’s Carry Out explained that since the announcement of the huge jackpot, his shop has been inundated with customers. Beckett said that the news of the jackpot generated “a great deal of buzz” in the town, with many people coming into his shop to ask about it. This is something that rarely happens in small towns such as Darrtown.
In an interview with the Journal News the shop owner explained that although a few of his customers are passersby, the majority of his business is from locals, whom he knows mostly by name, and who he hopes will come forward by October to claim the jackpot.
If the winner chooses to receive a lump-sum cash payment, after a minimum federal tax of 24% and a state tax of 4%, they will receive an estimated net cash payout of $614,880.
If they choose annual payments, then they will receive a net payout of $1,008,000 from the $1.4 million total.
In a similar story, in New York two Mega Millions Jackpots were won in less than one week. A lucky player won a $483,000,000 jackpot at the end April. Then, a Mega Millions Jackpot drop of about $20,000,000 was announced shortly afterwards.
