Genius Sports announced Kenneth J Kay’s and Michael Messara’s appointments to its board.
They will be effective on March 8.
Kay has been elected as an independent director to the board. Kay will succeed Harry You as chair of the audit committee and will be a member the nominating committee and the corporate governance committee.
Kay was most recently the CFO of MGM Holdings. Kay also held CFO positions at several companies, including Las Vegas Sands Corporation, CB Richard Ellis Group Inc, and Dole Food Company. Kay has previous experience on both the board and audit committees during his time with Summit Hotel Properties.
Kay stated, “This is an exciting time to join Genius Sports and it continues to transform how the world experiences sports.” “I look forward working closely with the board during the company’s next phase as a global leader for sports data and technology.”
Kay will be paid in accordance with the company’s compensation policy for directors.
David Levy is the chair of Genius Sports and stated that Kay’s experiences will be a benefit to how Genius operates.
Levy stated that Ken joined the board as the new audit chair and was delighted. “Ken’s vast expertise and depth will undoubtedly benefit the Company as we continue to create products and services that are at the heart of the sports data ecosystem.”
Messara will join the board as an independent observer. Messara is the cochief investment officer at Caledonia Investments and a shareholder of Genius Sports.
After starting his career in equity research at UBS AG in Sydney, Messara joined Caledonia as a Caledonia Investments analyst in 2006. He is also a director on Caledonia Investments’ Board of Directors and Arrowfield Pastoral Company’s non-executive board.
Messara stated that “Since Caledonia invested in Genius Sports, our strong partnership has been to continue building upon Genius’s many success stories and increasing shareholder value.” “We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Mark, the board and the entire Genius Sports team through this new appointment.”
Levy said: “We are happy to welcome Michael as an Independent Observer to our Board. This demonstrates Caledonia’s continued support of Genius as it has since our original listing.”
Genius Sports and XFL reached an agreement last month for a data distribution.
