Multinational sports betting and gaming company wants all commercial messaging in its outdoor marketing campaign for Romania to be removed or replaced by responsible gambling messages. This self-regulation decision is made in the context of current discussions about a law that would limit the promotion of gambling within the country.
All commercial messages must be removed within 100 meters radius of high schools
The group will make significant changes to its marketing strategy in the European country that is one of their core territories. It is expected that it will be implemented within the first six months in 2023. Superbet will be removing all commercial messages from out-of-home advertising. This includes any slogans or additional content that could encourage people to gamble and play games.
It also stated that it will only allow street ads that promote responsible gambling to be kept. The operator also announced that it will be more involved in protecting minors, who are the most vulnerable in terms of gambling risks.
Superbet Group has also announced that it will soon remove any out-of-home advertisements located within 100m (328ft) of any high school facilities.
Superbet’s Decision: “Unique on the Romanian Market”
According to the group’s official statement, the initiative is “unique” in Romanian markets and will be used to prove Superbet’s determination to keep an open dialogue with gaming regulators and work with local and global sustainability and responsible gambling professionals.
Superbet also stated that they will continue to develop a sustainable business strategy in which responsible gaming is prioritized and community involvement are key milestones.
The group that appointed Hans-Holger Albert its new chairman at February’s end also stated that Romania’s gaming industry is “in a complex regulatory environment, being fully compliant with national and European legislation”, which explains their open collaboration with all decision-making bodies related to gambling and gambling.
A draft law to regulate gambling ads was put up for vote in the Senate at the beginning of March. It passed with 80 votes and two abstentions. A vote in the Chamber of Deputies’ plenary session is also required for the law to be implemented.
The final version of the law would prohibit street advertising exceeding 30 square meters (2.952 feet) and promote money prizes or material goods. According to the National Audiovisual Council the TV ads would be prohibited between 6 AM and 11 pm.
