H2 Gambling Capital has released a detailed analysis of the US sports betting market and its future growth prospects.
H2 Gambling Capital: Sports betting exceeds expectations in the USA
Fast approaching is the fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court striking the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. This ruling paved the way for legal gambling in the USA.
This has led to a massive reorganization of the US gaming industry, with mobile betting exploding across multiple states and a pandemic that may be accelerating rather than slowing down its spread.
What’s next for the market?
H2 Gambling Capital is looking ahead in partnership with iGB against this background. Is there any growth as the pace of state launches slows?
A sector where a few brands tend to hold the top spots in each state’s market, there may be more potential for disruption than people think. As markets like the UK, Australia, and Italy have shown, dynamics and market leaders can be thrown off their perch over time.
Higher returns on US gambling
Existing markets have significant growth potential. Bonuses may have a negative impact on gross wins. Operators may see greater market share and return from maturing states if they adopt in-play betting (or its rapid-fire cousin micro betting).
These will be supplemented by major new states. H2 predicts that in 2023 20% of all new gross wins will come from only two states: Massachusetts and Ohio.
A $23.2bn market in 2030
In 2019, H2 published its first white paper on sports betting with iGB. We looked at the future US market. Our projection for US sports betting gross wins is $23.2 billion by 2030, thanks to an acceleration period in the four years following our initial report.
There’s more to come in a market that has exceeded expectations.
