Second Spectrum is part of Genius Sports and has extended its multi-year partnership with the National Basketball Association.
Second Spectrum will be an official provider of NBA League Pass augmentation and the official provider of NBA team basketball analytics under the terms of the agreement.
Genius Sports will continue to integrate NBA tracking data into its basketball insights and analysis engine. Genius Sports will also continue providing services to all 30 NBA teams.
Second Spectrum and the league will also collaborate in the research and development of “Dragon,” which will track mesh data and aim to synthesize millions of upon-court basketball data points.
The NBA will also use Second Spectrum augmentation technology for creating graphics based on optical court basketball data.
Mark Locke, chief executive of Genius Sports, stated that the NBA is one of the most technologically advanced sports leagues in the world. He said that fans, broadcasters, and media partners expect cutting-edge innovations.
