According to a recent report by Playtech, 60 percent of Brazilian respondents said they had bet online in the past six months.
The report entitled Responsible Gambling: Trends and Consumer Insights in Latin America is a complement to Playtech’s first insights report that was published in January 2022.
In this supplement, 2,500 people were surveyed in a variety of LatAm nations. Participants were asked to describe their gambling habits and their opinions on responsible gaming.
The report is released just weeks after Brazil legalized sports betting. The country’s legislative body is currently negotiating the details of how it will be implemented.
Jose Francisco Cimino Manssur said that the importance of regulation and responsible gaming measures is “becoming more apparent every day”.
This will keep this industry up to date, innovative, and focused on the player, in light of the many challenges that new technologies will present for all of us who are executives of this unique sector.
Regulated Markets record highest player participation
Peru released a draft regulation on igaming in July. Playtech reported that 82% of Peruvian respondents had bet or gambled in the past six months.
This total is 75% when looking at Colombia. Colombia has an online sports betting and casino market that is regulated, with eight million users and 17 operators.
According to the report, 68% of Chileans who were surveyed said they had gambled within the past six months. Argentina had the lowest percentage of people who gambled within the past six months, with 53%.
Playtech defines RG in LatAm
Playtech has also studied the perceptions of players and their definitions of responsible gaming to better understand cultural variations across Latin America.
In general, 49% of respondents said that a lack anxiety was the main factor when defining responsible playing. The highest percentage of respondents was in Peru (57%), followed by Colombia (54%) and Chile (51%).
Brazilian respondents, however, cited the fact that 60% cite gambling on legal websites as an important factor for gambling responsibly. In Colombia, 52% agreed with this view.
This contrasts with Argentina, Chile, and Peru who all place legality lower on their list of priorities compared to other issues.
Vivien Acuna, the superintendent of Chilean gaming casinos, said that the absence of responsible gambling policies is a major concern to the Chilean regulator.
She said that data that shows the behavior and preferences of Chilean players are extremely valuable. “A better understanding the market and consumer allows us to regulate this sector safely, with appropriate regulation and corresponding collection for all.”
