A GambleAware aftercare funding programme has awarded PS2m to ten organisations in Great Britain.
This initiative was launched in June 2022. It aims to support organisations that help people who are recovering from long-term gambling addiction. They will also receive any additional support that they may need to live happy, healthy lives.
The “rigorous selection process” which involved two experts with lived experience was said to have led to the selection of those who were chosen.
These ten people were selected because they demonstrated their willingness to help those who have suffered from gambling harm.
GambleAware stated that this included improving mental health, improving wellbeing, increasing practical skills such as financial and employment skills, and increasing self-confidence and self-belief.
Acta Community Theatre and Addiction Recovery Agency were among the organizations that received funding.
Anna Hargrave is the GambleAware Chief Commissioner. She stated: “Enabling people access treatment and support in reducing or stopping their gambling is crucial.
But, there are fewer details about how to make sure that this recovery is sustained for the long-term. Our Aftercare Funding Programme was created to support people in their recovery and rebuild their lives.
“These ten organizations were selected for funding due to their innovative approaches and their ability to reach specific communities. We are excited to see how these projects progress.”
The AFP offered funding at two levels. This included funding for smaller organisations or those who wanted to try out a new approach.
For larger organizations that are already established and wish to expand or develop their work, a maximum of PS350,000 is available.
Ipsos was appointed the evaluation and learning partner. It will provide an overall process and impact evaluation, as well as advice and guidance to the organizations. It will facilitate active learning and new insights sharing across the programme.
