According to the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), players who use safer gambling tools have increased since Safer Gambling Week 2022.
The BGC, Bacta and Lotteries Council coordinate Safer Gambling Week. It took place 17-23 Oct 2022.
The campaign used operator data from the BGC to determine that the week had a positive impact on the use safer gambling tools.
After Safer Gambling week, around 200,000 accounts established deposit limits. This is 12.5% more than October 2021. 61% of deposit limit-setting players did it for the first time.
With a 21% increase in impressions on social media from 2021, this also saw an uptick in social media impressions. The campaign garnered close to 30,000,000 impressions on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Additionally, reality checks were used by more players than ever. These are screen alerts that remind players how long their game has been.
According to the BGC, these findings correspond with the decline in problem gambling rates from 0.3% 2021 to 0.2% 2022.
Michael Dugher, Chief Executive of BGC, stated that Safer Gambling Week was crucial for the regulation industry.
Dugher stated that “These figures demonstrate Safer Gambling Week’s enormous impact” and continue to be a vital platform to encourage safer gambling in the regulated sector. “Millions of customers use safer gambling tools, including timeouts and deposit limits.
“This is a pillar in the regulated gambling and gaming industry. It is in marked contrast with the growing, unsafe and unregulated online gambling black market that has no of the strict safeguards strictly applied by BGC members.”
“Safer Gambling Week” is another sign of the industry’s determination and will continue to raise standards.
