Ohio for Responsible Gambling was launched to educate and raise awareness about problem gambling in Ohio.
The launch of Ohio sports betting on January 1, has been promoted by ORG. This spinoff from Get Ready Before You Bet focuses on responsible gambling and the dangers of betting on sports.
This campaign shows how anyone can place bets from any location. It’s also easy to conceal your stake, which could lead to significant losses.
Amanda Blackford is Director of Operations and Problem Gambling Services for the Ohio Casino Control Commission. She commented that there has been more interest in problem gambling than Ohio. “We want everyone to have fun while being responsible.”
Derek Longmeier is the Executive Director of Problem Gambling Network of Ohio. He said that the campaign highlights the importance of early detection. Gambling addiction can have devastating consequences for families, businesses and children.
Longmeier stated that “the majority of Ohioans who gamble” will keep their gambling limits within reach. It makes perfect sense to expect more problems in Ohio as sports betting increases exponentially by 2023.
Ohioans who are struggling with problem gambling may call 1-800-589-966 24/7 or text “4HOPE” to 741741.
