The New York Gaming Facility Board issued an invitation to applicants interested in applying for one of the three licenses available for New York casinos.
Yesterday’s board meeting saw unanimous support for issuing the request . This will set in motion the expansion of casino gaming in Empire State.
The meeting also determined the minimum capital investment and license fee for each licensee. This was fixed at $500m per license holder.
New York’s expansion in casino gaming stems in part from the 2013 law that allowed up to seven casinos across the state. Four of these have opened in New York.
Applications are not subject to any deadlines yet. However, all applicants will have to complete a preliminary round of questions for any further queries.
Many parties expressed interest in one of three licenses, Bet On Games or Wynn.
A group comprising Thor Equities and Saratoga Casino Holdings as well as The Chickasaw Nation (and Legends) have responded to the meeting. They officially declared their intention to respond to the Board’s call for applications.
This group plans to create an economic boom on Coney Island by opening a casino.
The group released the following statement: “Coney Island has waited for a year-round economic system that not only creates jobs but also careers. This partnership is unrivalled, as it combines unrivaled gaming experience, unsurpassed entertainment track records, and an unparalleled commitment to the community.
We look forward to submitting our proposal and setting an example in New York’s economic revival and resilience.
The board confirmed, following the request that a separate Community Advisory Committee would review all applications received.
The CAC will form and evaluate the applications based on four criteria: Economica Activity & Business Development (70%), Local Impact Siting (10%), Workforce Enhancement (10%) and Diversity Framework (10%).
After being assessed, the group can make recommendations to the licensing committee.
Melissa Gliatta declared the intention of the above group to participate in the application process.
We are thrilled to work with Legends and The Chickasaw Nation to create the ideal combination of hometown pride and expertise that will transform Coney Island New York into a beacon of economic potential.
We look forward to making a complete proposal which will drive the local economy forward, and that is in support of all the residents.”
