Massachusetts Gaming Commission is not happy with DraftKings violations, despite its efforts to be transparent and adhere to the rules. DraftKings reported its violation after it realized that it had placed bets without authorization on a tennis match.
MGC has not penalized the company because it did the right thing in reporting the violation. MGC commissioners initially thought that the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau should handle the matter, as it could administer penalties and carry out further investigations. The authority decided to discuss the issue in public so that other operators could hear about the details and avoid making the same mistakes.
The regulator has announced that it will conduct an hearing at which the sportsbook must explain the reasons for its violations.
DraftKings made bets without checking if it was authorized to do so. The sports betting company received 864 bets, translating to a total of 7,867.
DraftKings claims that the error occurred because the company copied a menu of bets from another market without verifying whether the markets included were authorized in the Bay State.
The MGC Was not Happy
The commissioners were not amused when they heard about DraftKings violating local rules. The commissioners were disappointed and frustrated by the company’s incompetence.
Eileen O’Brien , Commissioner, commented on the issue. She shared that she was annoyed to hear DraftKings copy its betting menu without checking local rules. She said that she could not say “whether it was benign negligence or something else”
Cathy Judd Stein is the chair of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. She also expressed frustration with the operator. She said that the authority should take all measures to prevent similar mistakes. She also said it was important to inform other companies about the situation and remind them to follow the rules.
Just make sure operators are aware that this issue is taken very seriously by the Commission.

Judd Stein, despite this, acknowledged that DraftKings had done the right thing in self-reporting their breach.
Jordan Maynard of the MGC, on the other hand, said that he wanted to see a decision made as soon as possible.
Unrelated to this, Massachusetts lawmakers discussed the possibility that legalizing low-stakes gambling for senior centers. Proponents of this idea claim that it will provide much needed entertainment for the elderly.
