The revenue from sports betting in Colorado increased by 2.6% in January, despite the decline in handle in the US.
The month’s gross gaming revenue was $35.5m. This is marginally more than the same-month of $34.6m but 13.2% less than the $40.9m reported by December 2022.
Online wagering accounted for almost all January revenue, with this segment earning $35.4 million in revenue. Only $106,592 of the revenue came from retail sportsbooks.
Player spending in January was $547.2m. This was 4.6% less than $573.7m in the previous month in 2022, but 5.6% more than $518.1m in December 2017.
The $542.2m spent online was the largest portion, and the $4.9m remaining was wagered at state-run sportsbooks.
The most popular sport for Colorado players to wager on was basketball, with players placing $178.0m. The next most popular sport to wager on was football, with $122.2m and college football at $50.2m.
The state received $2.6 million in taxes and players won $511.7m.
