Belal Muhammad struggles to make weight for UFC 288
Belal Muhammad didn’t know he would be fighting at UFC 288 until just two weeks ago. The fight between Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Darieush was originally supposed to be the co-main attraction, but it got scrapped. Muhammad saved the day on short notice, but it’s unclear if he had time to prepare.
According to Muhammad’s nutritionist, he is nearly 20 pounds over the weight limit of the welterweight division. The nutritionist initially said that it was 40 pounds but then changed his mind.
Muhammad’s body will suffer in either case during the weight loss process that comes just days after he finished his Ramadan (Mar 22-Apr 20) fasting. He fasted from dawn to dusk for a month without eating or drinking anything.
Gilbert Burns is Always Ready to Fight
Gilbert Burns is a fighter who lives and breathes it. This was evident when he accepted the UFC 288, despite having fought Masvidal only 28 days earlier. After three intense fights, he won the Masvidal match by unanimous decision.
His style is intense fighting. He will throw everything at the opposition, even if that means a quick defeat. So far, his strategy has worked – he only lost two fights within the distance.
Last time this happened, Kamaru Usman knocked out the UFC Welterweight champion in February 2021.
