Allwyn, which is preparing to assume management of the UK National Lottery has announced that it will acquire Camelot Lottery Systems Group (Camelot LS), from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTTP).
This deal is a result of Allwyn’s decision in 1993 to buy Camelot UK. Camelot UK has operated the National Lottery for over 20 years and was the main competitor in the Fourth National Lottery Licence competition.
Camelot filed a lawsuit against Allwyn’s award of the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), which granted the contract for the following 10 years to Allwyn. The legal challenge has been dismissed and Allwyn’s purchase of the former competitor solidifies its position in the UK lottery sector.
Allwyn has been able to significantly expand its US presence after securing a significant boost in European operations through the National Lottery license and the purchase of Camelot UK by the OTTP.
Robert Chvatal is Allwyn CEO. He stated: “We’ve always viewed America as an integral part of Allwyn’s future growth story. The acquisition of Camelot LS Group was the right move.
Allwyn is driven by the goal of building better lotteries and raising more money for charitable causes. He uses innovation, technology and safety to ensure that we achieve enhanced player engagement.
“Both Allwyn & Camelot have a passion for the lottery business. We deliver value to our customers and grow lottery returns to our communities.”
Camelot LS manages the Illinois Lottery through a private management arrangement via Camelot Illinois LLC trading firm. It also has a partnership agreement with the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
It also has Pan-American operations and transatlantic operations. The technology arm provides services and products to lottery players in Europe, North America and Europe.
After a transaction there will not be any changes to the company’s leadership. It states that Allwyn has ten years of experience in European lottery sectors.
At the moment, Allwyn will take over management of the UK National Lottery starting in February 2024. He will also continue to manage lotteries in Austria and the Czech Republic as well as Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Cyprus, and Cyprus.
