Kansspelautoriteit has penalized Hillside New Media Malta and Bet365 for violating advertising laws.
KSA has imposed a EUR400,000 fine on Hillside for “targeted advertisement and bonuses to young people” – individuals aged between 18-24 under the regulatory standards. Hillside had accounts with the company from 26 October 2021 to 1 February 2022.
After the broadcast of Kassa (a consumer-focused TV program that investigates products and services and then tests them), Hillside’s investigation was initiated.
KSA stated in a statement that vulnerable groups such as young adults need extra protection. Young people’s brains are still developing.
“This makes them more vulnerable to gambling addiction. The rules that protect vulnerable groups must be respected by gaming providers. This did not occur here, and this is why we have imposed this penalty.”
Last year, stricter advertising and marketing licensing conditions were implemented in the Netherlands. This meant that license holders could not send marketing material to anyone between 18-24. All commercial ads must target older age groups.
